In my role as a knitwear designer for the fashion industry, every season I have to attend trade fairs and predict trends and sift through a lot of information before I even put pen to paper, or in my case, graphics tablet pen to illustrator. But my favourite bit, mainly because I’m biting my nails waiting to see if my trend predictions were right, is definitely the catwalk sifting. Yes there is a lot of pictures and on the whole, a bit of a tedious task to undertake, but every so often you’ll find something that inspires you or just makes you smile.
Autumn Winter 15 looks like it will be a really good year for knitwear and that makes me very excited, because when it is all over the catwalks, then that means there is an influx of new knitters and more importantly, a little bit more street cred to a hobby that can sometimes be viewed as a bit old fashioned. I love the fact that every time the designers get behind it, knitting just seems cool and that means magazines get on it and then so does the news and so on and so on until we have an amazing set of new patterns by lots of designers appearing all over the place. Amazing.
