Bobbles with a twist

Well for winter we all love a good bobble, and here at Twisted we are no different. I have a bobble fest jumper coming up this winter which I can’t wait to show you, but for summer, how do you include a bobble? Well make a fake one of course. This jumper is blowing up a storm at the moment for the summer season and would be so easy to customise on an old knit or as maybe a trim idea for something new.

RECYCLE: Slash and Knit

I love the slash and knit technique. Make your jersey garments look like have a knitting stitch. Get our free how to guideSlash and Knit effect. Creating fake knitting stitches by slashing silkA number of years ago, there was a grungy fashion trend and I used a really cool feature, slash and knit, to sell designs to some of the biggest retailers in the UK!

I loved the slash and knit effect and since I posted an article about this [as well as a dress I made with this technique in silk- Pic on right] back in 2005, I’ve been asked by a lot of people how to do it. Well it really isn’t difficult at all and in the last couple of years I’ve seen it all over Pinterest and on other people’s blogs.

It’s a fantastic effect to add to some old T-shirts or vests and such an easy way to recycle your old garments. It’s a high impact and low stress way to update any type of fabric. It can be grungy or delicate and used in such a versatile way.

If you’re stuck for some ideas, check out our free Slash and Knit Vest post. It creates a delicate effect through jersey. Click here to have a look and download the vest pattern for free. Click Here

RECYCLE: Applique Cardi

Applique-CardiI love a little bit of the 80’s, but then I also love a bit of leather, biker looks and a little bit of rock. Well I found this amazing cardigan, complete from the 80’s with dropped shoulders, oversized and huge batwong sleeves. Darn it, it’s amazing!

…….But a tad old and wearing a bit at the shoulders. Well let’s put a twist on those classic elbow patches with applique. I’ve reworked some fake leather and gold beads and stitching onto the shoulders to both save the cardigan, save the world and just bring it more up to date. I’ve worn this out so many times and I can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve had. Download the guide now and get some templates for shoulder patch designs

RECYCLE: Patchwork Poncho

Patchwork-ponchoA few seasons ago, Chanel did a huge push in a collection, for hand crafted looking garments. There were loads of patchwork, loads of hand stitches, loads of ‘handmade’. To honour this and the aim to get crafters doing more to recycle, I’ve put together this really easy loose cape or poncho that is so easy to make.

Just get a collection of old jumpers, including one with a lovely large cowl, get cutting and put together this great patchwork item. It’s so easy to customise, and would look great in some brighter colours or with a mix of patterns.

Well it is so easy, you’ll be wearing it in less than an hour.
